The correct answer is : Because of their evil intentions and their arrogance
Ref: Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:23
Translation:
Similarly, whenever We sent a warner to a society before you ˹O Prophet˺, its ˹spoiled˺ elite would say, “We found our forefathers following a ˹particular˺ way, and we are walking in their footsteps.”
Tafseer / Explanation:
-
Every time a messenger came to a people, the affluent among them opposed him.
-
They justified their disbelief by saying they follow their forefathers’ religion.
-
This reflects arrogance and blind imitation of inherited falsehoods.
-
Their attachment to worldly status made them reject divine truth.
-
The verse warns that pride and tradition can block the heart from guidance.
