Tafseer / Explanation:

Allah instructs the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to stand in prayer during the night.

In this verse, He gives the option to pray for half the night, showing flexibility.

The phrase "or subtract a little" allows easing the burden due to human limitations.

It shows Allah’s mercy and gradual training for the Prophet ﷺ in spiritual discipline.

This also encourages believers to engage in night prayer (Tahajjud) with dedication and balance.

Arabic:-

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ ٣٠

Translation:

It is overseen by nineteen ˹keepers˺.

خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ ٣٠
ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ ٣١
ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍۢ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًۭا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ ٣٢

˹It will be said,˺ “Seize and shackle them,
then burn them in Hell,
then tie them up with chains seventy arms long.

خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ ٣٠
ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ ٣١
ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍۢ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًۭا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ ٣٢

˹It will be said,˺ “Seize and shackle them,
