Translation:
"Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females. And if there are [only] daughters, two or more, for them is two-thirds of one's estate. And if there is only one, for her is half. And for parents, for each one of them is a sixth of the inheritance if he has a child; but if he has no child and his parents inherit from him, then his mother has one-third. And if he has brothers, then for his mother is one-sixth, after any bequest he may have made or debt. Your parents or your children—you know not which of them are closest to you in benefit. This is an obligation from Allah. Indeed, Allah is ever, over all things, Knowing."
Tafseer / Explanation:
-
Divine Inheritance Laws: This verse outlines the fundamental Islamic laws of inheritance, establishing how wealth should be divided among family members after death, with specific shares for sons, daughters, parents, and others.
-
Gender-Specific Shares: The share of a male heir is twice that of a female heir, as is the case with the distribution between sons and daughters. This reflects the male's additional financial responsibilities in society.
-
Clear Shares for Parents and Children: The verse defines specific portions for parents and children, ensuring that parents receive a share of the inheritance only when there is a child, and it also provides for the situation when there are no children.
-
Equity and Justice in Distribution: Allah's distribution ensures fairness and justice in the division of wealth, while also accounting for the possibility of debts and bequests made by the deceased.
-
Divine Wisdom: The verse emphasizes the wisdom of Allah’s laws and how His knowledge surpasses human understanding, indicating that these rules are divinely ordained to maintain harmony and justice within families.
